The DeKalb County Tigers baseball squad won their first game of district tournament play Monday evening, trouncing Livingston Academy 9-4 in Smithville.The Tigers now have a 22-2 season record after finishing the season 10-0 in district play, and will now move on to the finals in the winners bracket of the tourney.The Tigers now advance to the next round of the tournament, and are set to meet the Upperman Bees Tuesday night at 6:30 p.m. in Smithville.The Bees defeated Smith County 5-3 Monday to earn the spot.The Tigers scored nine runs on seven hits and made one error, while the Wildcats brought in four runs onand made four errors.Pitcher Destry Wiggins gave up four earned runs on four hits, struck out eight, walked two, and hit a batter.Matt giles contributed to a six-run second inning with a grand slam homerun.The Wildcats got all four of their runs in a fifth inning rally that brought the score to 6-4, but the Tiger defense buckled down, allowing no more Wildcat scoring, but slipping through two more in the fifth and one in the sixth to clinch the 9-4 victory.Offensively, Matt Giles turned in a grand slam homerun, bringing along four RBIs.Evan Curtis hit a double, Shane Salley recorded two singles and an RBI, Tyler Kent swatted a single and added an RBI, Tyler Caldwell also had single with an RBI, and Andrew Atnip put a double on the books.Livingston Academy will go up against Smith County in the losers bracket at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Smithville before the DeKalb-Upperman contest.
