The DeKalb County High School Tigers played a regular season game in front of the hometown crowd last week, before traveling to Murfreesboro to take part in the Adidas Shootout at Riverdale. The Tigers would trounce their purple border rivals.
DeKalb started the Watertown game off with 14 points. Ian Colwell hit a two-pointer, three-pointer and a free throw, while Conner Close sank three two-point shots. Jordan Parker also had a two-pointer. Watertown came away with 11 points.
The Tigers added another 14 to the board in the second period, with Close hitting a pair of two-point shots and a free throw, while Parker had one two-pointer and a free throw. Colwell, Alex Antoniak, and Dallas Kirby each had a two-point shot. Watertown was held to eight points, giving DeKalb the 28-19 halftime lead.
Close hit three two-point shots in the third, while Kirby had two. Seth Fuson had a three-point basket, while Parker and Antoniak each had a two-pointer. The Purple Tigers were held to seven, giving DeKalb the 45-26 lead.
Kirby and Owen Snipes each had a two-pointer and a pair of free-throw points for the Tigers in the fourth, while Fuson added a two-point shot. Antoniak had a couple of free throws, and Kaleb Spears had one. Watertown had 14 points, but DeKalb claimed the 58-40 victory.
At the Adidas Shootout on Wednesday, the Tigers took on Sipsey Valley. It would be a slow start for the Tigers, but they would claw their way back.
The Tigers put nine on the board in the first, with a three-point shot by Parker, a couple of two-pointers by Kirby, and a two-pointer by Antoniak. Sipsey would take the lead with 14 points.
DeKalb scored 11 in the second period, with three two-point baskets and a free throw by Close, a two-point shot and a free throw by Kirby, and a free-throw point by Fuson. Sipsey added another 14 points, going up at the half, 28-20.
Close hit a three-point shot and a pair of free throws for DeKalb in the third, while Kirby added a two and three-point basket. Parker and Jon Hendrix each had a two-pointer. Sipsey was held to nine, but still held the 37-34 lead.
It came down to the fourth where the Tigers scored 11 points. Close had a couple of two-point baskets and a free throw, while Kirby had a three-point shot. Fuson added a couple of free throws, while Antoniak had one. Sipsey was held to five, giving DeKalb the narrow 45-42 win.
Next, the Tigers took on York in a game where DeKalb would fall behind and never catch up. The Tigers cored 13 in the first period, with Hendrix hitting a two and three-point shot, Fuson a couple of two-pointers and a free throw, and Antoniak one two-pointer and a free throw. York scored 14.
DeKalb put another 13 on the board in the second, with Hendrix hitting a pair of three-point shots, Ian Colwell with a three-pointer, and Spears with a couple of free throws and a two-pointer. York rolled on with 21, and the 35-26 halftime lead.
The Tigers added seven to the board in the third. Kirby had a three-point basket, while Fuson and Antoniak each had a two-point shot. York added nine, going up 44-33.
DeKalb ended the game with 15 more points. Fuson hit a three-point shot and a couple of free throws, Colwell a three-pointer, Antoniak a couple of two-pointers, and Parker a two-pointer and a free throw. York sealed the game shut with 21 points and the 65-48 win.
