The Tigers were able to crush Upperman in their regular season finale but was upset by the Bees in the first round of the district tourney last week. They now play for their playoff lives tonight against York.

Upperman got its revenge in a big way this past week as they rebounded from a beat down in Smithville to sending DeKalb County to the loser’s bracket of the district playoffs.

The Bees won the opening round game at Carthage 4-1, sending the Tigers into a win-or-go-home battle with York Monday night. The Tigers split with York this season but had owned Upperman until their loss in the first round.

The Tigers had won easily on senior night over the Bees thanks to back-to-back Cody Antoniak and Isaac Knowles home runs giving them an 11-1 win and a bright outlook as the Tigers entered the on a four-game winning streak, winning five out of their last six.

As for the huge Tiger win to conclude their regular season, the Bees were only able to muster three hits and were unable to take advantage of four DeKalb fielding errors as the Tigers scored in all five innings of the contest while Logan Cornelius shut the Bees down from the mound, striking out five on the day. Patrick Cantrell came in and relieved him in the last inning and fanned one himself.

The back-to-back homers in the third put the game way out of reach as that set the score at 7-0 going into the fourth inning where Upperman would get their only run. Derek Young led the Tigers in offense, going three-for-four from the dish, batting in four RBIs. Isaac Knowles was two-for-two while Colter Norris and Daniel Pucket both knocked in two runners. Pucket, Derek Young and Nathaniel Dace all swiped bases for the Tigers.
