Tigers win two, lose to Bees

The DeKalb County High School Tigers basketball team played three games last week, one on the road and two on their home court. The team faced one loss, but came away with a couple of big wins.

 

On Dec. 2, the Tigers took on the Pioneers of Warren County, and came away with a big win. DeKalb opened up with 15 points in the first period, with a pair of three-pointers, a two-point basket, and one point off of a free throw by Justin Bone. Kevin Aldino and Aaron Haggard each with a three-point basket of their own. Warren was held to seven points.

 

The Tigers added 12 more to the scoreboard in the second period, with a two and three-point shot by Isaac Beck, and a three-pointer by Haggard. Bone and Gentry Harpole each had a two-point basket. The Pioneers came away with 16 points, giving DeKalb a 27-23 lead at the half.

 

DeKalb put up 13 points in the third period, with a pair of two-point shots and a three-pointer by Bone, and three-point baskets by Haggard and John Roller. The Pioneers were held to 10 points, with DeKalb’s lead increasing, 40-33.

 

The Tigers put up 22 points to close the game, with Aldino and Bone each putting in four points of off free throws. Beck had a two-point basket and two points from the free throw line, while Roller had a pair of two-pointers. Haggard added a three-point basket, while Harpole had a two-pointer and a point from a free throw. Warren came away with 18 points, not enough to pull ahead. DeKalb took the win, 62-51.

 

Bone was five for eight on free throws, while Aldino was four for seven. Beck was two for four, while Harpole was one for five. Marshal Evins was zero for one.

 

On Dec. 5, the Tigers faced their biggest test so far this season, taking on the Upperman Bees. The game would prove difficult for DeKalb.

 

The Tigers scored eight points in the first period, with a two-pointer, three-pointer, and one point from the free throw line by Bone. Beck also had a two-point basket. The Bees jumped out with a big lead, scoring 19.

 

DeKalb got 13 points in the second period, with a pair of three-point baskets by Beck, and one by Haggard. Bone had a two-pointer, while Harpole scored two off of free throws. Upperman continued to pile on the scoreboard, taking 17 points and a 36-21 lead at halftime.

 

Bone added a pair of two-pointers and a free throw in the third period, while Beck had a two-point basket and a free throw. Haggard had a three-pointer, and Harpole had a two-point shot, giving DeKalb another 13 points. The Bees tacked on 16 more, increasing their lead, 52-34.

 

The Tigers came away with 22 points in the fourth period, with two two-pointers, and two three-pointers by Bone, and two three-pointers and a two-pointer by Beck. Aldino and Harpole each had a two-point basket. The Bees were held to 17 points, but that was more than enough. Upperman took the 69-56 victory.

 

Bone and Harpole were each two for two on free throws, while Beck was one for three. Haggard and Roller were each zero for one.

 

On Dec. 6, the Tigers were again at home during a Saturday afternoon game. The team took on the Chattanooga Patriots, and came away with an impressive victory.

 

Chattanooga came out with six points in the first period, while the Tigers thrashed their opponent with 28. Bone had a three-point basket, three two-pointers, and two points from free throws, while Beck had three three-point shots. Seth Wright came away with a two and three-pointer, while Harpole had a two-pointer and a free throw.

 

The Tigers continued in the second period, taking 20 more points. Beck had four two-point baskets and three free throws, while Aldino had a pair of two-pointers. Evins had a three-point shot, while Noah Parsley had a two-pointer. The Patriots were held to 10 points, giving DeKalb a 48-16 lead at the half.

 

There was no letup in the third period, with DeKalb putting up 18 more points. Beck put in a three and two-pointer, while Aldino, Evins, and Haggard added three-pointers of their own. Harpole added three points from the free throw line, while Parsley added one. Chattanooga had nine points, with the Tigers taking a 66-25 lead.

 

DeKalb added nine points in the fourth, with Trey Jones getting two two-point baskets and two points from free throws. Evins had a two-pointer, while Wright had a point from the free throw line. The Patriots scored three, giving the Tigers a 75-28 victory.

 

Harpole went four for six on free throws, while Beck was three for five. Bone was two for three, while Parsley and Wright were one for two. Jones was two for two.
