At the Best of the West Tournament at DeKalb West School Abby Joe Crook gets her team in position against Cannon County.

The DeKalb West School basketball teams continued the Best of the West Tournament last week with some fast action on their home court.

On Saturday, October 28, the Lady Bulldogs took on Cannon County in a tough match. DWS would score only two points in the first period, with a pair of free throws by Sophie Desimone, while Cannon County couldn’t stop scoring with 28 points.

Abbey Joe Crook had a two-pointer in the second period, with Autumn Crook getting a free throw. Cannon added six more to the board, taking a 34-5 halftime lead.

Jordyn Agee sand a two-pointer and a three-pointer in the third period, with Desimone getting a three-point basket of her own. Cannon was held to four points, but still held a 38-13 lead.

Agee capped off the Lady Bulldogs’ score with a three-point shot in the fourths, while Cannon sealed their tournament win with 11 more points. Cannon took the 49-16 victory.

The following day, the Bulldogs faced Forks River in a much closer game. Chase Young had a pair of two-pointers in the first period, with Cameron Stanley getting a two-pointer and a free throw. Forks River was held to six points, giving the Bulldogs the narrow lead.

Conner Talley added a three-point shot for the Bulldogs in the second period, with Ethan Brown getting a pair of two-point baskets. J.T. Summers also had a free throw point. Forks River came on strong, scoring 13 points and taking the 19-15 halftime lead.

Talley and Young scored the only Bulldog points in the third, Talley with a three-point shot and Young with a two-pointer. Forks River inched their lead ahead with eight points.

The Bulldogs fell off in the fourth with Young scoring the lone two-point shot of the period. Forks River would go on to seal the win with eight more points, taking the 37-20 win.
