The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers Soccer team traveled to Smith County last Thursday for a district match. Both teams came out to fight for the win, in what would be an intense game.
Only six minutes into the game, Smith County scored the first goal of the night. The game would be a battle, and as it would turn out this would be the only goal scored during the first half.
Starting the second half, Smith County would take the ball to the Lady Tigers defense, which would result in a penalty kick for the Lady Owls. Smith County was up, 2-0.
Lady Tigers’ Angeles Soto came back strong in the 53rd minute of the game to score DeKalb’s first goal. Three minutes later, Lady Tigers’ Kamien Sparks would also complete a goal, with an assist from Taylor Spare. The score was tied, 2-2.
Within the next few plays, the Lady Tigers’ defense was once again charged with a foul, giving Smith County another successful penalty kick. This would give Smith County a 3-2 lead.
Throughout the night the fouls for the Lady Tigers would get the best of them, allowing Smith County to complete two more goals for the final score of 5-2.
The Lady Tigers Soccer team traveled to Winchester this past weekend to compete in the annual Rebelette Classic Soccer Tournament hosted by Franklin County High School. In their first match on Saturday morning, the Lady Tigers were defeated 4-0 by the perennial powerhouse Shelbyville High School.
Later that evening the Lady Tigers faced Ooltewah High School. Ooltewah would come out and score first, but the Lady Tigers would come back and score two goals to get the 2-1 victory.
On Sunday morning, the Lady Tigers faced host Franklin County. After a long, hard-fought match, with both teams having several chances on goal, the game ended in a 0-0 draw.
Overall, the Lady Tigers played well finishing the tournament with a 1-1-1 record against some tough AAA opponents.
DCHS Lady Tigers will play Cannon County on Thursday, Sept. 18, in a district match at home. They ask that you please come out and support them.
