The DeKalb West School Bulldogs have been on the field over the past couple weeks, getting a win and suffering some big losses.
On April 7, the Bulldogs were in Carthage, where they had a devastating 18-1 loss to the Smith County Bees. John Maynard would be the only Bulldog to touch home base during the game, that coming in the second inning.
On April 10, the Bulldogs were on the road, facing Gordonsville. There, the team would play a tough game that would come down to the fifth inning.
Gordonsville got on the board first, scoring a run in the first inning, but the Bulldogs came on in the second, with Grayson Redmon and Brady Driver each touching home plate.
The game would be tied in the third, after Seth Whaley came home for DeKalb West and Gordonsville scored two more runs.
The match would be decided in the bottom of the fifth, when Gordonsville came home with the game winner.
On April 16, the Bulldogs were at home playing Cannon County in a game that had originally been scheduled for the previous day. The game had to be rescheduled due to snow and cold temperatures.
In this match, the Bulldogs would take the lead and never look back. Paxton Butler scored in the first inning, while Butler, Austin Johnson and Colter Norris each scored in the second. Derek Fish would top off the score in the third, after he touched home plate. The Bulldogs got the 5-0 win.
On April 17, DWS was again on the road, this time taking on Warren County. The Bulldogs would keep things close through two innings, but things would fall apart starting in the third.
Warren scored twice in the first inning, but Isaac Hall came in with a run for the Bulldogs in the first inning, while Austin Johnson touched home in the second, tying the game 2-2.
Warren came on strong starting in the third, scoring two runs and another three in the fourth. The Warren defense kept DWS off the scoreboard for the rest of the game, while the offense put up five more runs in the fifth. DWS fell 12-2.
