Tough road game for Saints

The DeKalb Middle School Saints basketball team was on the court last Thursday, on the road in Smith County, taking on the Gordonsville Tigers. It would be a tough game for DeKalb, with the team finding points hard to come by.

 

DMS only scored two points in the first period, that coming from a two-pointer by Michael Elswick. The Tigers came out with 14 points and a big lead.

 

Tanner Poss got in on the game in the second period, getting a three-point basket and a two-pointer. Colter Norris also scored, getting a three-pointer. Again, the Tigers scored 14, increasing their lead at the half, 28-10.

 

The Saints only scored five in the third period, with a free throw and a two-point shot by Poss, and a two-pointer by Nathan Atkins. Gordonsville continued to dominate the court, taking 12 points and a 40-15 lead.

 

Poss had a three-pointer and two free throw points in the fourth, while Logan Cornelius also took a three-point basket. The Tigers countered with eight points of their own, sealing the 48-23 win.

 

Poss was three for eight on free throws.
