The past week proved to be a tough one for DeKalb West School Bulldogs Baseball Team, after falling in two games, one on the road and another at home.
On Mar. 11, the Bulldogs were on the road in Lebanon, where they took on the team from Walter J. Baird. The game remained close through the first few innings, but soon became unreachable after the fourth.
WJB would strike first, getting one run in the second inning, and another in the third. In the fourth inning, WJB turned on the heat, scoring four runs, and adding another three in the fifth.
By the sixth inning, WJB was up 9-0 and the Bulldogs looked as if they may face a shutout. But, DeKalb’s Paxton Butler and John Maynard found home plate, getting DWS on the board.
WJB added two more runs in the sixth, giving the game’s final score, Walter J. Baird 11, DeKalb West 2.
Bulldogs’ pitcher John Maynard threw 61 pitches, with five strike outs, and two walks. Hunter Jennings threw 35 pitches in the game.
On Mar. 14, the Bulldogs were at home, this time going up against Livingston. This match up was turn out much closer, but still with the same results.
Livingston would get the games one and only run in the second inning.
Derek Fish would come away with the only hit of the day for the Bulldogs, a single, and while Derek Young, Austin Johnson, and Luke Oliver would all get on base with walks, DWS would not find home plate.
Livingston came away with the 1-0 win.
Seth Whaley threw 79 pitches, with one run, and nine strike outs.
