It was a tough week for the Lady Tigers basketball team, falling in a tight game against Smith County at home early in the week, before battling a tough Cannon County team on Friday.

On Tuesday, December 12, the ladies were on their home court as they hosted the Lady Owls of Smith County. DeKalb would fall behind early and never be able to recover.

The Lady Tigers came away with 11 points in the first period, with a pair of two-point baskets and a free throw by Tess Barton, a two-pointer and a pair of free throws by Chloe VanVranken, and a two-point shot by Ella VanVranken. The Lady Owls put 16 on the board.

DeKalb added 14 to the board in the second period. Allie Melton hit a two and three-point shot, while Barton sank a couple of two-pointers. Ella VanVranken added a two-pointer and a free throw. The Lady Owls increased their lead with 25 points, going up 41-25 at the half.

Ella VanVranken hit a two-pointer and three free throws in the third, while Cam Branin and Avery Agee each added a two-pointer. Barton had a free throw point. Smith County added 14 more, going up 55-35.

The Lady Tigers would only garner eight more points in the fourth period, with Ella VanVranken hitting a two and three-pointer, Branin a two-point basket, and Lillie Young a free throw. The Lady Owls ended the game with 12 points, taking the 67-43 win.

The following Friday, the Lady Tigers were on the road, traveling to Woodbury to take on a tough Cannon County team.

DeKalb came away with 12 points in the first period, with a two and three-pointer by Melton, a three-pointer by Agee, a two-point shot by Ella VanVranken, and a pair of free throw points by Barton. The Lionettes jumped out with 18 points.

The Lady Tigers added seven to the board in the second, with a two-point shot and a pair of free throws by Ella VanVranken, and a two-pointer and one free throw point by Agee. Cannon added eight, taking the 26-19 lead at the half.

Chole VanVranken scored a two-pointer and a pair of free throws for the Lady Tigers in the third, while sister Ella added a pair of two-point baskets. Brooklyn Fuson had a two-point shot. The Lionettes added 17, taking a 43-29 lead.

The Lady Tigers ended the game with another 17 points. Chloe VanVranken scored on seven free throws, while Ella hit a pair of two-pointers. Melton added a two-point shot, a three-pointer, and a free throw. Cannon added 18 points, taking the 61-46 win.
