Smithville’s top high school golfer will join the Phoenix as he inked his intent to hit the links with Cumberland next year after what he hopes will be a state tournament season during this his senior year.

Isaac Walker, with family and teammates looking on, signed his letter of intent with Cumberland. Walker has played all four years of his high school career with DeKalb High and has been their top-seeded golfer.

“It’s a culmination of a lot of hard work,” said DeKalb Golf Coach John Pryor. “He has a lot of talent and it’s really come to fruition. We are real proud of Isaac.”

Walker said visits by the Cumberland coach meant a lot to him and influence him on committing to the Phoenix.

“I like the campus and I like what he (the coach) sees in what his goals are,” Walker said.

Walker made state his freshman and sophomore years and has the goal of winning district, region and then placing at least top five in the state tournament.
