The DeKalb Middle School Saints had
trouble brushing off the Spring Break rust as Warren County came to town and
scored two quick goals, the early advantage enough for the Pioneers to escape
Smithville with a 3-2 win.
The two early Warren County goals came after the Pioneers pressed the offense on two break away runs into the Saints’ side of the pitch, putting their shots past the keeper. With 2-0 deficit coming out of halftime, the Saints were able to respond with a goal by David Suastgui off a cross from Ryder Miller. However, the Pioneers responded with a counter, setting the score at 3-1. The Saints were able to make it a nail-biter at the end when Yair Mata scored a late goal to set the final score at 3-2. The loss drops the Saints to 3-2 on the season but they still remain 1-1 in the conference.
