Watertown got watered down by DeKalb Middle this past week as both squads made short work of the visitors in a pair of blowouts.

For the Lady Saints, the first half told the tale as they jumped out to a commanding 19-2 lead on their home court in the first quarter. Several players contributed to the early lead with Xhoria Lyons leading the way with four first quarter points. Kenslee Taylor had three of her game-high six in the first as did Morgan Walker.

The second quarter was owned by Cadee Griffith as she led all scorers on the night, scoring nine of her game high 13 in the second stanza. Ella VanVranken contributed four of her game total nine in the second. Meanwhile, to counter the Lady Saints, the Purple Tigers had – nothing. They scored no points in the second frame, leaving them down 32-2 at half.

With the huge lead, the Lady Saints took their foot off the gas and cruised through the second half although they still outscored Watertown in the third quarter by a margin of nine to five. Watertown’s only joy came in the final period when DeKalb put in some of their bench players and only mustered two points to five scored by Watertown. The end result was a 43-12 thrashing of the visitors.

Things went even worse for the Watertown boys as they narrowly avoided a shutout, failing to score for the first three periods before breaking onto the scoreboard in the forth in their 50-5 loss.

The Saints went up 16-0 in the first as Robert Wheeler scored eight of his game-high 14 points in the first. Elishah Ramos, who led all scorers on the night with 16 points, had six of that number in the first period.

The second saw no offense by either team as the Saints put up three points while shutting out the visitors. The third period proved to be the final nail as DeKalb put up 25 points with Ramos leading the way with 10 joined by Connor Close who had seven of his game-high nine in the third frame.

Holden Trapp and Zackary Birmingham contributed to the blow out in the fourth with two apiece while Watertown finally figured out what the basket was for and netted their five.

The boys would go on later in the week to deal a second loss to Van Buren County on the season, this time on their court in Spencer, winning 42-28. Robert Wheeler led DeKalb with 16 and Elishah Ramos added 10. Connor Close got six, Zachary Birmingham and Ean Jones both had four and Jacob Hendrix two in the win.
