Webb, Wiggins named DCHS Basketball MVPs: Judkins, Whitehead earn MVC honors

The  DCHS basketball banquet  for the 2010-2011 season was held at the Smithville First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center last Thursday night.
DeKalb County High School Seniors Martha Webb and Destry Wiggins were named the 2011 DCHS Basketball Most Valuable Players at the annual banquet.
 Allison Judkins and Ashlee Whitehead, both Juniors at DCHS, were selected as co-Most Valuable Cheerleaders.
The MVP and MVC awards were presented by Chad and Shelia Kirby of Love-Cantrell Funeral Home.
The MVP and MVC awards are presented each year in memory of Chad Kirby's grandfather, Allen D. Hooper.
Webb, who received the MVP trophy for the Tigerettes, scored more than 1,200 points in her high school career at DCHS.
Webb also received the best offensive player award, and was also recognized for being named to the second team all-district this season.
Wiggins took home the Tiger MVP Trophy, as well as the best ball handler, smartest player, hustle, best offensive player, and best athlete awards.
Wiggins was also recognized for being named to the first team all-district, as well as the district all defensive team.
The Tigers wrapped up the 2010-11 season  with a record of 23-9.
The Tiger’s year ended with a loss to the Cannon County Lions in the semi-finals of the Region 4-AA Tournament at White County High School in Sparta.
The DeKalb County Tigerettes finished their season with a loss to Cannon County in the opening game of the District 8-AA tournament in White County. The Tigerettes finished with a 14-14 record.
In other cheerleading awards, Kelsey Hale took the honor for Most Spirit, Most Improved went to Katie Agee, the Best Jumps award was taken by Jasmine Dimas, Christian Atnip took Best Dance, Best Stunts went to Kaylee Cantrell, and the STAR Award (Spirit, Team, Attitude, Respect) was given to Erin Cantrell-Pryor.
Chase Cantrell was given an award for his outstanding service as Tiger Mascot.
Additional Lady Tiger basketball awards included the Tiger Award, presented to Mercedes Luna, the Best Practice honor went to  Lauren Adcock, and  Alex Meadows was awarded Best Attitude and Best Defensive Player.
Brooke Hutchings was named Best Sixth Man, Best Rebounder  went to Lydia Foutch, Most Improved honors were taken by Chelsea Lewis, and Danielle Tyson took Best Newcomer, as well as being named to the All district Freshman Team.
In addition to Wiggins MVP, Best Ball Handler, Smartest Player, Best Offensive Player, Best Athlete and Hustle Award,he was recognized as first team all-district, and named to the All district defensive team.
Tyler Kent was honored as Best Defensive Player, Best Attitude, and was recognized as All district honorable mention.
Best Practice Player honors went to  Randy Hansard, while Most Improved, Best Foul Shooter, and an All district honorable mention awards went home with Dylan Roller
Will Molander took Best Passer honors, Best Sixth Man went to Braxton Atnip.
Best Rebounder, All district defensive team, 3rd team all- district awards were all taken by Sonni Young.
Cody Puckett received an All district honorable mention.
The late Price Harrison, a long time supporter of DeKalb County sports and a frequent contributor to The Review, was named the Tiger basketball Fan of the Year. The award was accepted by his daughter Hart Harrison.
