Basketball tournaments were held last week at DeKalb High School for regional teams. The games, although not booked, were tense with up and coming varsity players striving to show off their skill. Each game was set in two 18 minute halves. Cannon played Pickett County, losing to Pickett (55-61). Siegel faced Cookeville afterwards, Siegel taking a loss of (31-50). Siegel’s three point percentage was high with consistent perimeter shots, but their loss came from Cookeville’s strong defense causing constant turnovers. Siegel then went on to beat Warren County afterwards (47-39). Clay County played Cookeville next, a close win for Clay Co. of (72-67). The Dekalb Tigers played next against Picket County. They won the tipoff but were discouraged when the halftime score showed to be (23-34). Coach Martin talked sense into his team during the half, and they came out playing stronger. The game started to get closer near the final few minutes, but Pickett came back up with a win of (50-72).
