The girls won and boys lost in their trip to Dibrell.

A showdown before the student body in Dibrell ended up being a split as the West Middle School Lady Bulldogs disappointed the home crowd by claiming victory while the Bulldogs couldn’t quite pull it out against a hot-shooting Dibrell boys’ team.

The Lady Bulldogs got things started out right before the packed gym of Wildcat fans by silencing them early with a 12-10 lead after the first period. Aniston Farler did her part, getting five of her game-high 10 points in the first, Emma Martin took up the slack in the second quarter, scoring 5 points as she lead the Lady Bulldogs during the matinee session with 11 points. The scoring along with the Lady Wildcats’ only being able to put up three in the second stretched the West lead to 21-13 at half.

The third saw a stalemate with both teams scoring seven. Dibrell was spurred on by Lily Rains who scored over half of her team’s total points, leading all scorers with 17 on the afternoon.

The student body got loud in the fourth but it wasn’t enough to help their team cut into the West lead as the Lady Bulldogs took a 37-25 win. Joining Farler and Martin the scoring column was Madison Martin with six, Ella Hendrixson and Alyssa Crook, both with four and Aly Griffith with two.

It looked like it might be a sweep for the Bulldogs as the boys got out to a fast start, leading the entire first period until the very last shot of the quarter. The buzzer beater would leave Dibrell with a 11-10 advantage after one and would mark the last lead West would see on the afternoon.

Causing the most problems for the West defense was Jeremy Boren who led all scorers with 18 along with Drathon Dixsno who added 16. The one-two punch kept West on its heels as Dibrell outscored them 13-4 in the second stanza to open up a 24-14 half-time advantage.

Jamison Marler led West with 10, eight those coming in the fourth quarter as the Bulldogs tried to mount a late run. However, the Bulldogs’ 11 fourth quarter points was countered by 11 by the Wildcats with the home team coming out on top 42-31.

Rounding out the scoring for West was Isaac Brown with eight, John Ellis with six, Alex Antoniak with five and Carson Donnell with two.

The Bulldogs will get a chance at revenge on Nov. 16 when Dibrell comes to the friendly confines of West Middle School for a game before the student body. Tip is at high noon.
