McCowan
West Bulldog Wesley McCowan went to the rack early and often as he led his team to victory this past week over the Dibrell Wildcats.

The DeKalb West Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs held home court this past week, taming the Dibrell Wildcats for a pair of victories.

Lady Bulldog Tess Barton showed who was boss early on as she lit up the scoreboard with six points in the first on her way to leading on scorers with 18 on the night, lifting West to a 36-30 win over their visitors from Warren County. Barton shot 62 percent from the field and pulled down eight rebounds on the evening.

She followed up on her opening six with another six pack in the second and was joined by Alyssa Crook who also put up six in the second stanza to give their team a 22-14 halftime lead. Crook also cleaned the glass with 15 rebounds on the evening.

Barton had four more in the third as the Lady Bulldogs kept pace with Dibrell which finally came alive in the third despite their poor shooting first half.

Lily Rains from the Lady Wildcats tried to single-handedly lead her squad back in the fourth with five of her 13 in the period. While outscoring their hosts 12-6 in the fourth, it wasn’t enough for Dibrell as West was able to hold on for the win.

The boys team controlled the pace in the first as Wesley McCowan scored four in the opening frame on his way to leading all scorers with 22 on the night. However, a pair of three balls by Dibrell left the game at 8-6 at the end of one as West continued without team leader Alex Antoniak who has been sidelined with a leg injury.

Carson Donnell came alive in the second and he and Jaxson Humpheries both hit shots from beyond the arc to help their team to a four-point halftime lead.

The third proved to be a the deciding factor  as McCowan heated up, scoring 11 in the third, single-handedly outscoring the Wildcats in the frame. Dibrell was able to outscore their hosts in the fourth but the hole was too deep as West took the 38-28 win.
