You never forget your first your first love, your first pet or your first car. Thursday evening, Tigerette Madison Whitehead found something else she will never forget – her first home run.

Stepping to the plate in the second inning in what was already a blow out for DeKalb over visiting Macon County, Whitehead leaned into a pitch and drove it over the left field wall.

“That’s her first home run – ever,” said Coach Danny Fish as he watched her jubilantly round the bases as her team waited for her at home plate.

The long ball came as part of their Tigerette’s 12-1 crushing of Macon that started with a seven run first inning and was followed up by five in the second. Whitehead led her team with four RBIs thanks to her long ball as she went two-for-three in the game. Jacey Hatfield was a perfect three-for-three. Kenzie France took the win from the circle, just days after playing the hero herself

France was a one-woman wrecking crew the Tuesday before, pounding in five runs as DeKalb doused Watertown 18-5.

It began with a torrent of runs as the Tigerettes plated six in the first, five in the second and six ore in the third, leaving no doubt who was going over in the district tilt in Watertown. The hosts were able to must three in the third to stave off a very early stoppage via the run rule but still found themselves in a 17-5 even after getting two more runs in the fourth.

The reason for the lopsided game was a massive offensive output by the Tigerettes as they outhit Watertown by a staggering 18-3 count at the plate. Watertown didn’t help themselves either as they made four fielding errors.

Leading the way in hitting were Joni Robinson, Braya Murphy and Kennedy Polk who all went three-for-four from the dish. France was two-for-four with the stick, her hits including a homerun. She was joined by Braya Murphy who also went yard for the Tigerettes. Jacey Hatfield had a double in the blowout.

Meanwhile, Emme Colwell was lights out from the circle, pitching the entire five-inning game. She fanned three along the way and surrendered two bases on balls.

The Tigerette win came after a tough day last Saturday against Friendship Christian where they were blanked 6-0. They were outhit in the weekend tournament in Nashville by a count of 7-2 with Emme Colwell and Megan Walker accounting for all the DeKalb offense.

That loss came on the heels of a 3-2 win by the Tigerettes over Cookeville. Offense was at a premium against the Lady Cavaliers as DeKalb outhit them, 3-2 with Maddison Parsley, Braya Murphy and Kenzie France accounting for their work at the plate. France registered two RBIs in the win as he base knock happened to be a home run. She went the complete game from the circle, pitching all four innings where she struck out three and walked two.
