Lady Tiger soccer standout, Allie Wilbur, a DeKalb County High School senior, is moving on to the next level, signing on to play soccer at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania.
Waynesburg University is a private university in Waynesburg, Pennsylvania, established in 1850, and offers undergraduate and graduate programs in more than 70 academic concentrations. The university enrolls over 2,500 students, including approximately 1,800 undergraduates.
The daughter of Andrew Wilbur and stepmother Racheal Joines, and mother Samantha Brown, Wilbur said she plans to study forensic investigations while at the university. “I will be majoring in forensic investigation, and hope to pursue a career in crime scene investigation. I chose Waynesburg University because I felt it was the best opportunity to get the forensic education I wanted, and also play soccer at the next level at a big school. I felt like I could grow a lot there.”
Wilbur said that she will miss her time as a Lady Tiger and the friends she has made along the way. “I really liked playing for the Lady Tigers and made a lot of close friends. It was a few of the best years of my life. I played all four years for Coach K, and played left wing, which is on the outside of the left side of the field, moving the ball up and down the sideline, trying to get it into play to set up for the forward, in the middle of the field. I’ve always played soccer since I was really little.”
Coach Dylan Kleparek had high praise for his star senior. “She’s been a good captain. She’s kind of a silent leader. She doesn’t talk a whole lot, but leads by good example. This year she was a real leader on the team, and led our stretches and warmups before the games, as well as being a leader on the field.”
“She scored several goals for us,” Coach K continued. “She’s a left wing, playing on the left for the Lady Tigers all four years. She’s a really hard worker, up and down the field, and also has a lot of assists, where she puts the ball in the box, giving others opportunities to score. She’s a strong left leg and a solid player.”
Another thing that made Wilbur a special player for Coach K was that she was a legacy player for DCHS. “She’s my first, second generation player,” Coach K explained. “I coached her dad, Andrew on our first couple of teams, and to see another one come through is pretty awesome.”
The Lady Tigers’ season is played in the fall, and though this year didn’t go the way Coach K had hoped, he said the team grew as the season went on. “We had a building team this year and played really well. We faced some adversity, with some players going down throughout the season, but overall we had a good season. I felt like we improved as the season went on, got into the district tournament, and got beat by the team that went on to the region.”
