The DeKalb Middle School Lady Saints were still on the court last week, wrapping up their regular season games and participating in the state tournament. The girls had a good week.

 

On Jan. 19, the Lady Saints traveled to Middle Tennessee Christian School in Murfreesboro to take part in the first round of the James C. Haile State Tournament. The girls showed some muscle in their first game against the Walter J. Baird Blue Devilettes, easily moving on to the next round.

 

The Lady Saints scored 10 points in the first period, with Joni Robinson getting a two and three-point basket, while Madison Parsley came away with a three-point shot. Abbi Taylor also scored a two-pointer. The Devilettes stayed right with them, scoring nine points.

 

DMS scored eight points in the second period, with Robinson again as the top scorer. She took another two and three-point shot as well as a free-throw point. Taylor also had another two-point basket. The Devilettes only scored two points, giving the Lady Saints an 18-11 halftime lead.

 

Julia Curtis got on the board in the third period, with a two-pointer and a three-pointer. Sarah Anne Colwell added to the score with a two-point shot. W.J. Baird was held to only three points, with DeKalb’s lead increasing, 25-14.

 

The Lady Saints opened up in the fourth, taking 12 points. Curtis came away with three two-point baskets and a free throw, while Macy Hedge got a two-pointer and a free throw. Parsley also had a two-pointer. The Devilettes were held to six points, giving DMS a 37-20 victory.

 

Robinson was one for three on free throws, while Curtis was one for two. Hedge was one for one.

 

On Jan. 22, the Lady Saints were on their home court, taking on a team from Rickman in a game that was originally scheduled for Jan. 15. The makeup game would end the Lady Saints’ regular season with another big win.

 

The Lady Saints came on strong in the first period with 16 points. Parsley scored a three-point basket and a pair of two-pointers, while Curtis got a couple of two-pointers of her own. Hedge and Colwell each had a two-point basket, while Robinson added a free throw. Rickman scored eight points, giving DeKalb the lead.

 

DMS didn’t let up in the second period, with the Lady Saints scoring 11 points. Robinson had a three-point basket, while Hedge and Curtis each had a two-pointer and a free throw point. Sophie Cripps also scored a two-point basket. Rickman was held to six points, with DMS taking a 27-14 halftime lead.

 

DeKalb repeated their score in the third period, with another 11 points. Curtis had a three-point shot and a two-pointer, while Hedge and Mya Ruch each had a three-pointer of their own. Rickman got three points, with DMS taking a 38-17 lead.

 

The Lady Saints scored 12 points in the fourth period, with Robinson getting another three-point basket. Parsley, Curtis, Megan Walker, and Kenzi France each had a two-pointer, while Hedge added a point from a free throw. Rickman scored six points, with DeKalb getting the 55-23 victory.

 

Robinson and Curtis were each one for two on free throws, while Hedge was two for three.
