The Smithville board of Mayor and Aldermen met Monday night, and there is good news on the tourism front.
First, City Walk Apartments owner Steve Pringle spoke to the aldermen about traffic on Bright Hill Road in front of Smithville Elementary School when school traffic is present, suggesting a three-lane road be constructed.
Chamber of Commerce Director Suzanne Williams addressed the council with updates on tourism in the county, telling the mayor and aldermen that tourism dollars topped 42.71 million last year. She also shared that a $100,000 CDGB grant for downtown Smithville has been approved.
City Manager Hunter Hendrixson gave the council an update on bridge construction over Fall Creek and at College Street.
He said the Fall Creek Bridge project is coming along on schedule, as fair weather has helped expedite construction. The College Street Bridge is not expected to be contracted until February.
