Three Smithville Aldermen and a city judge took the oath of office Monday night at the monthly meeting of the mayor and aldermen.
City Attorney Vester Parsley, Jr. administered the oath to Aldermen Shawn Jacobs, Josh Miller, and Danny Washer, all recently reelected to four-year terms. The terms began on Sept. 1. Smithville Municipal Judge Hilton Conger was re-appointed to a new two-year term by the Aldermen, and was sworn in by Parsley as well.
Mayor Jimmy Poss appointed Alderman Danny Washer as commissioner of the water and sewer Department; Alderman Gayla Hendrix Commissioner of the sanitation department; Alderman Jason Murphy commissioner of streets and safety; Alderman Josh Miller commissioner of the police and fire Departments; and Alderman Shawn Jacobs will be the commissioner of finance and taxation. Alderman Jason Murphy was named vice-mayor.
Meanwhile, The Aldermen voted to promote Anthony Hasemann to supervisor of the water and sewer plant. Hasemann will replace the recently retired Bobby Pinegar.
A workshop was set for Sept. 19 at 5 p.m. to discuss options for the purchase a new combination fire engine/rescue vehicle. The vehicle may replace both a 1992 model fire truck and an aging rescue truck. The workshop will be held at city hall.
