Another storm brings mayhem to family

Just eight days after damaging winds caused destruction in the western end of the DeKalb County, another raging storm moved through just before midnight Thursday causing devastation to a home just across the DeKalb/Warren line in Dibrell.

Wayne and Stephanie Reagan’s home and farm, on Smithville Highway in Dibrell, suffered severe damage from what the National Weather Service determined to be straight-line winds.

"Wayne woke me up and said ‘I think we need to get in the basement for this one,’" Stephanie told the Smithville Review.

"I got up and started getting the little kids to the basement, and he went to get Nana who was in a recliner chair in the living room. The roof lifted off, and he laid over the top of her to protect her," Stephanie explained.

"Wayne was hit by something and sustained two cracked ribs, but we’re all safe and that’s all that matters," she added.

Damage to the property included nearly half of the home’s roof and ceiling being ripped away, along with the front porch, several hundred feet into a fence row behind the residence, a chicken house was blown apart and debris scattered throughout the property, a barn was partially blown down and two horse trailers were moved several feet. Marks from the tires of the trailers could be seen on the ground.

"It happened so quickly," Stephanie explained "there was nothing we could do but take cover.

"You could feel the pressure (from the storm) inside the house and hear the roaring of the wind. And, it was over just as quickly as it came. When we walked back into the house and into the living room, we saw all of the stars, because the roof was gone. My ceiling fan is out in the back yard," she concluded.
