A teen with bad brakes on his truck triggered a chain reaction crash on McMinnville Highway Thursday that left a couple of drivers shaken. The teen, identified only as a 17-year-old McMinnville resident, was heading southbound, back toward his hometown when he came upon stopped traffic on the two-lane highway. According to Highway Patrolman Rodney Whiles, the youth said he had recently had work done on his brakes and that they “weren’t very good” and that when he stomped on them they did not stop him in time. The resulting crash collected the stationary, southbound 2003 Silverado Dually driven by Billy Blevins, 72, of Green Hill Road as he was slammed from behind by the teen’s 2006 F-250.The impact knocked the Dually forward into the also stationary southbound 1999 Dodge Ram driver by Danny Fish, 52, of Smithville. An ambulance was called to the scene due to whiplash-like symptoms suffered by Blevins and Fish but both declined a ride to the hospital after being checked out by paramedics.
