DeKalb County's three representatives in the Tennessee General Assembly will be challenged in this year’s election.
State Senator Mae Beavers of Mount Juliet will face Clark Boyd of Lebanon in the Aug. 7 Tennessee Republican Primary for the 17th District seat. The primary winner will see no Democratic opposition in November general election.
State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver of Lancaster will have no opponent in the primary, but will be challenged for the  40th District seat by Democrat Sarah Marie Smith of Carthage in the general election.
Smith will also be unopposed in the primary.
State Representative Mark Pody of Lebanon will face Democrat Candace Reed of Lebanon in the general election for the 46th District seat. Neither candidate will be challenged in the primary.
In the U.S. House of Representatives (6th District) race, Diane Black of Gallatin will be challenged by Republicans Jerry Lowery of Sparta in the primary, and the winner will square off against Democrat Amos Scott Powers of Doyle and Independent Mike Winton of Manchester.
Gubernatorial candidates who have turned in petitions include incumbent Bill Haslam of Knoxville and fellow republicans Donald Ray McFolin of Nashville, Mark Coonrippy Brown of Gallatin, and Basil Marceaux, Sr. of Soddy Daisy.
Democrats Charles V. "Charlie" Brown of Oakdale, Ed Borum of Knoxville, Jesse Gore of Nashville, Kennedy Spellman Johnson of Murfreesboro, Mark E. Clayton of Whites Creek, Ron Noonan of Sparta, and William H. "John" McKamey of Piney Flats have returned petitions.
Shaun Crowell of Spring Hill intends to run for the Constitution Party.
Isa Infante of Knoxville will be a Green Party candidate.
J.D. Ellis of Savannah, John Jay Hooker of Nashville, Jondavid Balunek of Hendersonville, and Steven Damon Coburn of Cookeville intend to run as Independents.
Daniel T. Lewis of Nashville will be a Libertarian candidate.
For the U.S. Senator’s seat, Republicans include incumbent Lamar Alexander of Walland, John D. King of Knoxville, Joe Carr of Lascassas, George Shea Flinn of Memphis, Fred R. Anderson of Maryville, Floyd Conover of Gallatin, Erin Kent Magee of Knoxville, Christian Agnew of Mt. Juliet, and Brenda S. Lenard of Sweetwater.
Democrats seeking the office include Gary Gene Davis of Nashville, Gordon Ball of Knoxville, Larry Crim of Antioch, and Terry Adams of Knoxville.
Independents running for senator are Bartholomew J. Phillips of Nashville, C. Salekin of Murfreesboro, Danny Page of Greenbrier, Dea Jones of Memphis, Edmund L. Gauthier of Dover, Eric Schechter of Nashville, Harrison Kelly of Bartlett, Joe B. Wilmoth of Baxter, Joshua James of Murfreesboro, and Rick Tyler of Ocoee.
Tom Emerson, Jr. of Atoka will be a Tea Party candidate.
Albert McCall of Lebanon and Dwayne Craighead of Celina will seek the Republican State Executive Committeeman-District 17 post.
Jennifer Winfree of DeKalb County and Pat Fields of Wilson County will vie for Republican State Executive Committeewoman-District 17.
Rachel Givens of Wilson County is the lone candidate for Democratic State Executive Committee Woman-District 17.
Aubrey Givens of Wilson County and Bob Black will seek the seat of Democratic State Executive Committeeman-District 17.
In the county mayor’s race, Incumbent Mike Foster will face fellow Democrat Tim Stribling and Republican Nominee Chris Smithson in the August general election
Meanwhile, Smithville Mayor Jimmy Poss will face opposition in the Aug. 7 city election.
Poss will be challenged by Wallace Caldwell.
Jason Murphy and Gayla Hendrix will face no opposition in the races for city alderman.
The Smithville mayor and alderman serve four-year terms.
Three incumbent Dowelltown aldermen, Brad Driver, Keith Farler, and Ronald Griffith will be unopposed on Aug. 7.
Four of the five school board races will be contested on Aug. 7.
Matthew Boss and Danny Parkerson will seek the seat now occupied by John David Foutch in the First District. Foutch is not seeking re-election.
Incumbent Charles Robinson and Jerry Wayne Johnson will vie for the 2nd District seat.
Incumbent Kenny Rhody will be challenged by Jonathan Willoughby and Jim Beshearse in the 3rd District .
Incumbent Billy Miller is unopposed in the 4th District.
In the 7th District, incumbent Johnny Lattimore will face challengers Emitt Shaun Tubbs and Brandon Cox.
