A local man who was issued a citation the TWRA for killing a black bear out of season entered a guilty plea in General Sessions Court last week.

Jim Beshearse pled guilty to killing big game during a closed season last Wednesday.

Judge Bratten Cook II sentenced Beshearse to six months, suspended, and he will be on unsupervised probation. A $250 fine was levied, and Beshearse must pay the TWRA $1,000 in restitution. His hunting privileges were suspended for one year as well.

Beshearse shot and killed the bear after it wandered onto his property on the Old Snow Hill Road just outside the city limits of Smithville on June 3.
