Smithville Police have arrested 36-year-old Russell Blackwell and charged him with five counts of forgery after he allegedly forged checks on a family member’s account and passed them at a local bank.
Smithville Police Chief Randy Caplinger said the checks totaled $2,075.
Blackwell reportedly passed a check written for $475 on June 22, then returned with $300 and $600 checks on June 25.
He allegedly returned to the bank on June 26 and 28, cashing a $350 check written on the account of Harold Blackwell on both visits.
Blackwell is under a $50,000 bond and he will be in court on Aug. 16.
Juan Carrera Munoz, 39, was cited for contributing to the delinquency of a minor on July 12.
According to Chief Caplinger, Munoz asked his 15-year-old son to drive to a location across town to pick up items for him.
Police discovered that the minor was the driver after being called to the scene of a hit-and-run accident on Broad Street where he had hit another vehicle from behind and fled the scene.
When the driver was located and found to be 15, Munoz was called and reportedly admitted to sending his son out in the vehicle.
He will be in court on Aug. 2.
Jordan Adams, 26, was charged with a second offense of driving under the influence and cited for violation of the implied consent law on July 3.
Caplinger said an officer, dispatched to a a Cookeville Highway residence where a man had reportedly been asleep at the wheel of a parked vehicle for about 45 minutes, found Adams napping.
The officer reported that he awoke Adams, and found his speech to be very slurred.
Adams allegedly told the lawman that had taken prescription medication about 12 hours before the incident.
He reportedly submitted to, but performed poorly on, field sobriety tasks.
Police say Adams refused to submit to a blood test, but authorities ordered a mandatory blood draw because of a prior September 2007, DUI conviction in Putnam County.
His bond is $2,500, and he will be in court on Aug. 2.
Adams was cited again on July 10, this time for simple possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance (marijuana).
According to the chief, Adams was stopped at the intersection of Church and North College streets by an officer who knew he had a bench warrant against him.
While searching Adams, the officer found a plastic bag containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.
Roxanna Landis, 28, was charged with public intoxication and leaving the scene of an accident on July 17.
Caplinger said Landis hit a vehicle belonging to the City of Smithville in the parking lot behind city hall and left the scene on foot.
She was arrested soon afterward and judged to be intoxicated.
Police said she had very slurred speech and was unsteady on her feet.
The chief said field sobriety tasks were stopped for her safety because she was unable to stand.
Her bonds total $4,000 on the two charges, and she will be in court on Aug. 2.
Peggy Bandy, 36, was charged with domestic assault on July 7.
Caplinger said that an officer investigating reports of a domestic disturbance spoke to Gary Bandy, who said that his wife had assaulted him.
Bandy reportedly told officers that he was at his sister's residence when Peggy Bandy arrived saying she wanted to speak to him.
While they stood on the porch, he said she became violent and punched him on the side of his face, grabbed his shirt, and tore it.
She allegedly threatened to kill him.
The officer spoke with Peggy Bandy who allegedly admitted to hitting the man in the face and tearing his shirt because he had pushed her.
It was determined that she was the primary aggressor, and she was taken into custody.
Stephanie Bone, 26, has been charged with domestic assault.
An officer responding to a report of domestic violence on Kendra Drive, where a husband and wife were reportedly arguing, spoke with a man who said that his wife had assaulted him and made threats to hit and stab him.
The man had marks on his shoulder and neck area and two large cuts on the right side of his chest.
Bone allegedly told police that she and her husband had been arguing, and that she had thrown a picture frame at him.
It was determined that she was the primary aggressor.
Her bond is $2,500.
Joseph Blair, 20, was charged with driving under the influence and cited for speeding.
Caplinger said an officer who stopped Blair's vehicle for speeding on South Congress Boulevard noticed that his speech was very slurred and that he appeared to be disoriented.
Blair was reportedly clocked at 77 mph in a 45 mph speed zone.
When the officer asked him if he knew where he was, Blair reportedly responded that he was in Dickson.
Blair submitted to but performed poorly on field sobriety tasks. He also submitted to a blood alcohol test.
His bond is $1,500 and he will be in court on July 26.
Nicholas Hollingsworth, 30, was cited for shoplifting at the Dollar General Store on July 18.
According to Chief Caplinger, a store employee told the officer who responded to the scene that Hollingsworth was seen putting items into a bag.
A search of the bag allegedly turned up merchandise taken from the store.
He will be in court Aug. 9.
David Lee Alwin, 57, was cited for speeding and violation of the open container law when he was pulled over for exceeding the speed limit on East Broad Street.
Officers allegedly found an open container of beer in the console of Alwin’s vehicle.
Roy Atnip, 51, was cited for shoplifting after he allegedly took merchandise from Advance Auto Parts and tried to sell those items at another local business.
The incident was reported to police, who confronted Atnip and reportedly found him to have the stolen items from the store in his possession.
He will be in court Aug. 2.
