Bly shot during botched break-in

A Smithville man was shot in the after breaking into a home on Possum Hollow Road early Monday morning.According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Steven Darrell Bly, 27, who is being treated at Vanderbilt University Medical Center for a gunshot wound, is expected to be charged in the case.Ray said that 911 received a call at 1:29 a.m. from a man who reported that he and his girlfriend were at home when someone entered the residence through a window.The man shot the intruder, who turned out to be Bly, in the left arm with a pistol.Ray said Bly's wound does not appear to be life threatening.Bly was taken by DeKalb EMS to a landing zone on Highway 70, and was then flown by Life Flight helicopter ambulance to Vanderbilt hospital in Nashville.Ray said that the case is still under investigation by the Sheriff's Department, and that charges are pending in the case.
