Family members of the late PFC Billy Gene Anderson, U.S. Army, along with several county and state officials, are expected to attend the dedication tomorrow of the bridge over Dry Creek on Highway 70 to the memory of the fallen soldier, who lost his life while serving in Afghanistan in May 2010.
The dedication ceremony, in which the structure will be renamed the "PFC Billy Gene Anderson Memorial Bridge" will be held at 10 a.m. on June 14 on the east end of the bridge in Dowelltown.
Anderson’s family, County Mayor Mike Foster, State Representative Terri Lynn Weaver, State Senator Mae Beavers, and Tennessee Department of Veterans Affairs Assistant Commissioner Donald Smith are scheduled to attend the event.
The bridge is to be dedicated in recognition of the life of valor and death in combat of PFC Anderson.
The county commission adopted a resolution in March asking the Tennessee General Assembly to rename the bridge in honor of Anderson.
Representative Terri Lynn Weaver introduced the bill in the House of Representatives, and Senator Mae Beavers took it before the State Senate.
After the bill passed both governing bodies it was signed by Governor Bill Haslam on April 26.
