Bridge to be named for fallen soldier

The county commission adopted a resolution Monday night to name the bridge on Highway 70 over Dry Creek in honor of the late PFC Billy Gene Anderson of DeKalb County.Anderson was assigned to the 508th Special Troops Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, Fort Bragg, North Carolina.He lost his life fighting for his country in the Badghis province of Afghanistan on May 17, 2010.He succumbed to wounds suffered when his unit was attacked with improvised explosive devices.Anderson, who enlisted in the Army on June 26, 2009 and was deployed to Afghanistan on January 13, 2010, received several posthumous awards, including the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal with a Bronze Service Star, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the NATO Medal, and Combat Action Badge.The resolution will be forwarded to the state legislature for approval.
