Flooding Monday afternoon saw water covering city streets and threatening to enter homes on Short Mountain Street, College Street, Meadowbrook Drive, Dearman Street and Bright Hill Road. Traffic had to be detoured around the intersection of Highway 56 and 70 because of standing water. A school bus carrying 32 students home from after-school programs was stranded in a flash flood on Dearman Street.
