As an older person, sometimes I feel left behind. All the new gadgets with the latest technology, cars that park themselves and new and improved everything. I’m still using the old and held together by glue and bailing wire items; the new and improved is still out of my price range.
I think that’s why I liked the movie “Fried Green Tomatoes: and the scene where Evelyn Couch (Kathy Bates) crashes her car several times into the vehicle of two thunderstruck young girls who just stole her parking place telling Couch, “Face it, lady. We’re younger and faster,” to wit she replies, “Face it, girls. I’m older and I have more insurance.”
As you get older, you do think more about insurance. If you’re younger you would be wise to do so as well. With all the devastating damage done by recent hurricanes I bet there are a lot of people who are glad they did have insurance. Hopefully, not so much the other way around.
State Farm Insurance Agent Jackie Smith - Downtown on the Square
With this in mind I noticed State Farm agent Jackie Smith stopping by the office where she picked up her “Best of the Best” award from Angie. When I wandered the Square Thursday I saw Smith’s office and dropped in figuring I could get some good information to pass along.
Jackie Smith and licensed team member Jaya Harwell were there to answer all questions from customers. Smith has over 32 years in the insurance industry and has been on the Square for the last eight years.
“We do auto, fire, life and financial services,” Smith said. “If you’re interested in finding out whether you’re properly insured, we will do a free financial-services review; you just have to bring by what you have now and we will gladly go over it for you at no charge.”
Asked about what they recommend as far as what people seem to lack in insurance coverage and they both agreed it was life insurance.
As I’m getting older I see how important it is to keep life insurance, and that goes for younger working people too. Many times these days it takes a two-working couple household to pay the bills and everywhere costs are rising. It’s definitely an unselfish act to take out a life insurance policy. You hope you never use it, but let’s face it we never know what life’s going to bring.
Cash Express - 126 E Bryant St, Smithville – 615-597-3427 – M-F 9 – 5:30 p.m. and Saturday 9:30 a.m. – 2 p.m.
I met some nice folks at Cash Express on Bryant Street right there next to the Food Lion. Jamie Dawson is the manager over there and Athena Knaver is her right-hand woman.
Besides offering your smorgasbord of financial fair like payday loans and title loans, they also offer a flex-loan program that works sort of like a credit card … all without a credit check. Borrowers just need to bring in their paystub, Social Security card, bank statement and a piece of mail to get going.
“We do more than just loan money,” Dawson said. “We also do a lot to help the community like our toy and coats for kids program. We have 179 drop-off points around town and want to say thanks to the businesses and schools who help us make it happen.”
Cash Express accepts donations year-round and if you stop by on the first Friday of every month you can get free breakfast at 9 a.m. or free lunch at 12 noon.
Fall is Here
Walking around the Square I noticed some of the first Halloween decorations up at Monogramming by Sheri. The fall is my favorite time of year so I am looking forward to seeing all the harvest and Halloween decorations as they go up.
