I always like a good theme. I think I will call this week’s topic “bed and breakfast.”
It’s actually beds and lunch, but why let that get in the way of a good idea? In any case, on to our first stop.
Mattress Plus - East Broad Street just past Highway 56
For the bed part of my theme, one only has to talk with Mattress Plus owner Cody Kilgore, who has added a complete line of mattresses to his existing cellphone service business.
“We get deliveries every Friday,” Kilgore said. “People can come in and try out any number of different styles and price points and we order them for a quick turnaround. We’ve got mattresses for every budget.”
Kilgore has your standard-type mattress, memory foam and high-tech Thermo Balance that has air pockets built in to remain cool to the touch.
I’m not sure if the plus is for the mattresses or the cell phones but while you’re checking out the beds, you can peruse a stockpile of high quality used cell phones to choose from. In addition to the phones, you can sign up for a plan as well.
One mattress-related item which might interest buyers is a mattress cover that is guaranteed for 15 years. These are so good, if something gets through to damage your mattress, they’ll replace it as part of the warranty.
Kilgore said he saw the opportunity to sell mattresses when he figured to fill the void left from Sleep Center which relocated to Murfreesboro.
“They’re really doing very well,” Kilgore said. “We also offer financing and a free pillow and mattress protector with every mattress purchase.”
Mattress Plus offers several different types of financing, one is no credit check if you have a job and checking account
Red Door Café - Just off the square on Walnut Street – has a red door
While you can’t order breakfast in the morning, at least not yet anyway, Red Door Café off the square has lunch, dinner (or dinner and supper) plus a lot of good in-between sweets and fountain drinks. From a chocolate malted to a Coca-Cola they are specializing in comfort food – oh and salads too. Plus they have waffles with bacon or sausage when they open at 10:30 and they’re open seven days a week. It’s the perfect spot after church on Sunday
While owner Jeania – just Jeania – got busy opening, she’s now ready to serve the public and judging by the great pictures on their Facebook page the food sure looks good. Jeania had a maddening three-day opening from start to finish and I’m not sure how she pulled it off because it looks like a five-star restaurant in there.
“I’m a single mom and I needed to get open and start serving customers,” said Jeania, who reports that their specialty is the chicken tenders.
Besides chicken tenders, fried or grilled, the menu is full with meat loaf, grilled tenderloin, country-fried steak with white gravy, grilled chicken salad on iceberg lettuce, grilled cheese sandwich and chips and sides of green beans, mixed white and pinto beans, cream corn, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, cucumber salad, cole slaw, small side salad and tator tots.
There is a children’s menu as well of a small burger and chips or chicken strips with one side. For dessert they have key lime pie, cookies and cream pie, banana pudding, smores pie and ice cream. Plus all the good floats.
Jeania’s right-hand woman is manager Tayler Martin and she’s helped out by Kaylee Martin.
Oh, and did I mention the live entertainment? Seems the inside is spacious enough for a stage and a band. Jeania is in the process of interviewing local talent for some folks who do some mighty fine picking and a grinning. If you’re interested, let her know.
Well, that’s it for this week folks, I’m looking forward to what next week brings.
