The sheriff’s department arrested a 23-year-old Alexandria man and charged him with aggravated arson on June 18.Shawn Patrick Byrd, 23, allegedly set fire to his Lower Helton Road home while three other people present. Sheriff Patrick Ray said the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched after a fire was reported at the home. Firefighters reportedly found the source of the blaze to be suspicious, and called a sheriff's department detective to the scene.
