A local man was airlifted after a rolling his Volkswagen over on Highway 56 South near Webb Lane just before midnight Saturday. According to Lieutenant Randy Maynard of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, Donald Wayne Cantrell, 62, was traveling south in a 2000 Volkswagen Beetle when the vehicle left the roadway on the right side, striking a culvert and overturning. The Bug apparently hit another culvert before coming to rest on its roof in the ditchline. Cantrell was treated by DeKalb EMS and airlifted from a field near the scene and flown to Vanderbilt Medical Center with non life-threatening injuries. Maynard said a diabetic condition may have been a contributing factor to the crash. Members of the Blue Springs and Keltonburg Stations of the DeKalb County Volunteer Fire Department and officers of the DeKalb County Sheriff's Department assisted at the scene.
