Cantrell to run for re-election
Cherry Hill, courthouse precincts to merge

DeKalb County Assessor of Property Scott Cantrell has picked up a petition to qualify for re-election.

 

Administrator of Elections Dennis Stanley said Cantrell picked the petition up Monday. Cantrell, who was elected to his first term in 2012, will seek the nomination the DeKalb County Democratic Party in the March 1 primary.

 

Other petitions picked up at the election commission were:

 

•Carl Lee Webb, Incumbent 6th District Constable, to qualify for the March 1 Democratic primary.

 

•Paul Cantrell, Incumbent 4th District Constable, to qualify for the March 1 Democratic Primary.

 

•Mark Milam, Incumbent 5th District Constable, to qualify for the March 1 Democratic Primary.

 

•Johnny King, Constable incumbent 7th District Constable to qualify for the March 1 Democratic Primary.

 

•Tom Theriaque, an independent candidate for 2nd District Constable.

 

The qualifying deadline for candidates for property assessor and all seven Constable seats is noon on Dec. 10.

 

Meanwhile, the DeKalb County Election Commission voted to merge the Cherry Hill voting precinct with the Courthouse precinct Thursday.

 

After a discussion of election day issues including the appointing of election workers who reside in the precinct, voter participation, and the operating cost of the precinct at Cherry Hill, the commission unanimously approved the merger of the precincts.

 

Cherry Hill voters will receive notification by mail that they will now vote at the courthouse precinct, and will be issued new voter registration cards.
