A new DeKalb Idol was named at the fair Friday night.After judges narrowed the field of contestants down to the top 10 for the final rounds of competition Friday, Joshua Chapman of Smithville took the DeKalb Idol crown.The event was sponsored by DTC Communications.Chapman earned a spot in the final three, then bested Elizabeth Koegler of Smithville and Christy Dannels of Silver Point, to take the 2013 title with a performance of the Rascal Flatts’ song “Changed.”Chapman was awarded $300 and a trophy for his efforts.Koegler won the People's Choice Award and second-place overall.She was awarded $200 and a ribbon for her second-place finish, and $150 for being chosen as the audience’s favorite performer.Dannels received $100 and a ribbon for third place.Making their way to the top 10 after the weekly competitions were Hope Valenta of McMinnville, Kathy Duggin of Dowelltown, Adam Overstreet of Elmwood, Autumn Monroe of Maryville, Becky Reagan of Livingston, Alison Ferguson of Carthage, and Leanna Firestone of Algood.
