An inmate at the DeKalb County Jail and his wife are both charged with introducing contraband into a penal institution and child abuse and neglect after they allegedly attempted to use their eight-year-old child to smuggle a single pill into the facility on Nov. 6.
According to Sheriff Patrick Ray, Justin Dale Estes, 24, and 30-year-old Ashley Nicole Estes were charged after his family visited him while he was incarcerated, and a detective found a pill in the coat pocket of the Estes' eight-year-old daughter. Ray said Justin Estes admitted that he had instructed his wife to put the pill, believed to be an eight milligram Suboxone, in the girl’s pocket.
The sheriff said that, if ingested, the pill could have caused the child to suffer serious sickness or death. Mrs. Estes allegedly told the detective that she had previously brought drugs into the jail for her husband on different occasions by putting them in the clothing of her children, according to Sheriff Ray.
Both Estes’ bonds were set at $20,000, and they will appear in court on Dec. 11.
Jennifer Lynn Bullard, 31, was charged with fraudulent use of a credit card on Nov. 1.
The sheriff said Bullard used someone else's debit card twice at a local bank, withdrawing $103 on each occasion. Bullard was allegedly captured on the bank’s video surveillance system making the transactions. After an investigation, Bullard was arrested on Nov. 13.
Her bond was set at $3,000, and she will appear in court on Nov. 20.
Gregory Mark Guidry, 30, was charged with domestic assault, violation of an order of protection, and violation of an order granting bail on Nov. 16.
The sheriff said a deputy was dispatched to a residence on Puckett Point Road in answer to a domestic complaint. Guidry was living there with his mother, sister, and his sister's boyfriend. Upon arrival, the officer was told that Guidry was trying to attack his sister, who already had an active order of protection against him. When the woman’s boyfriend attempted to stop him, Guidry allegedly pushed him into the wall, scratched his left shoulder and the left side of his neck and hit him in the ribs with his knee.
A computer check confirmed that Guidry has an active order against him granting bail from a domestic assault on Sept. 21. He was charged with violating the order granting bail.
His bond was set at $10,000, and he will appear in court on Nov. 20.
Steven Blake Goad, 42, was cited for driving on a suspended license and simple possession of a quarter ounce of marijuana, and 38-year-old Amy Jo Scott cited for simple possession on Nov. 15. Sheriff Ray said a deputy found a 2004 yellow Dodge Neon parked at the Holmes Creek Boat Ramp with Goad behind the wheel and Scott in the passenger seat.
A computer check reportedly revealed that Goad's license was revoked for a previous driving under the influence offense in 2013. After receiving consent to search, the officer allegedly found the marijuana in the car, and one-and-a-half Hydrocodone pills and eight Alprazolam pills in Scott's purse.
They will both appear in court on Dec. 11.
