Ballots for DeKalb County’s finest chili will be cast on the courthouse lawn on Oct. 11.
Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County’s 10th Annual Chili Cook-off and Bake Sale will begin at 10:30 a.m. on the square. The event will end at 1 p.m., when the chili decision will be announced.
If the weather does not cooperate, the cook-off will be moved to the First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center.
Participants can purchase a bowl for $5.00, eat all the chili they want, and vote for their favorite chili and the best decorated booth. Handmade pottery bowls will be available for $10.00.
Delicious baked goods prepared by members of local churches will also be for sale. Take-out will be available.
The Chili Flappers from the DeKalb County Board of Education are the defending cook-off champions, and The Courthouse Gang from the DeKalb County Officials placed second last year. Lei Me Out Chili from Middle Tennessee Gas Utility District won first place in the decorating competition.
The event reportedly raised $3,400 last year. All proceeds go to Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County.
Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing organization.
Habitat for Humanity builds and renovates houses in partnership with volunteers and families in need, regardless of their ethnic or religious background. The houses then are sold to those in need at no profit and with no interest charged.
