Forrest Byrd, 59, was arrested on Monday, Sept. 4, for burglary and cited for criminal trespass. While on routine patrol, police observed Byrd inside a business’ locked fence lot where he was making entry into vehicles with the intent to commit a theft. Byrd did not have the owner’s permission to be on the property and was taken into custody.

Riley A. Bullard, 51, was cited on Monday, Sept. 4, for simple possession. On a routine traffic stop, Bullard was found to be in possession of a marijuana joint found inside of a cigarette pack. Upon investigation it was determined that the joint belonged to Bullard.

On Monday, Sept. 4, Jared Wayne Taylor, 28, was cited for simple possession. Taylor was involved in a motor-vehicle crash and inside the car in plain view were two blue oval pills believed to be alprazolam, which Taylor didn’t have a prescription for. 

Joshua Scott Puckett, 29, and Olivia Hope Baber, 20, were cited for possession of prohibited weapons on Monday, Sept. 4. Puckett and Barber were passengers in a vehicle that was stopped for a traffic violation. The driver of the vehicle gave consent to search and all occupants exited the vehicle. 
When asked if Puckett had anything on his person, it was discovered that he had a metal playing card that had been sharpened around all the edge, giving it  the ability to cause serious bodily injury and which has no common lawful purpose. Found in the floor board in a McDonald’s bag where Barber was sitting was a pair of brass knuckles which was found to belong to her.

On Wednesday, Sept. 6, 41-year old Shannon Dawn Stanick was cited for unlawful drug paraphernalia. Due to suspicious activity, police approached a vehicle belonging to Stanick in the parking lot of Kwik-N-Ezy. Officers then received consent to search the vehicle and located a silver round marijuana grinder lying in between the driver and passenger front seat next to the keys of the vehicle.

Robert Lee Nichols, 38, was cited on Wednesday, Sept. 6 for simple possession. Police observed a vehicle parked in the fire lane at Wal-Mart and made contact with Nichols, who was sitting in the passenger seat. Due to prior knowledge of drug offenses, a search was conducted and 20 small peach pills believed to be Xanax, for which Nichols didn’t have a prescription, for were found in his pockets. Nichols is to appear in General Sessions Court on Oct. 5.

Claudia Yadiria Ramirez, 33, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 13, for assault. A report was filed on Tuesday alleging that Ramirez and the victim were having a verbal argument that turned physical when Ramirez began pushing the victim, then hit her in the face with her fist. The victim did have a swollen and bruised left eye. A warrant was taken and Ramirez was later taken into custody without incident.

Spencer Ervin Stanfield, 22, was arrested for a second charge of DUI, driving while license revoked, and cited for contributing to delinquency of a minor on Thursday, Sept. 14.
Smithville police responded to Wal-Mart for shoplifters that had left and the officer made contact with the vehicle matching the description at Mapco. The officer made contact with the driver, identified as Stanfield, who had slurred speech, red watery blood-shot eyes, and was unsteady on his feet. 
Stanfield was asked and consented to standardized field sobriety tasks to which he performed poorly at which time he was arrested for DUI. Upon a computer check through Central Dispatch, his license returned revoked. Stanfield was cited for contributing due to him allowing a minor adult at the age of 19, identified as Luckey Logan Croom, to consume an alcoholic beverage while in the same vehicle at the time of this offense.  Stanfield’s bond was set at $7,500 and he is to appear in General Sessions Court on Oct. 5.  Croom was cited for the theft of the beer from Wal-Mart and his court date is Oct. 5

On Thursday, Sept. 14, Roman Smith, 25, was cited for simple possession. Police stopped Smith for the State Probation and Parole department and transported him to the police department for a drug screen. While enroute, the officer observed Smith pulling something out of his pocket and immediately pulled the patrol car over.The officer discovered that Smith had three small blue round pills believed to be Diazepam for which he didn’t have a prescription.

On Friday, Sept. 15, Ricky Colton Knight, 25, was cited for theft. A report was filed on Sept. 6 concerning Wal-Mart surveillance video showing that on Aug. 15 Knight used a self checkout that had been loaded wrong and was giving  $20 bills as change instead of $1 bills. Knight made several small purchases from the same machine for the purpose of profiting from Wal-Mart’s mistake.

Jason R Chapman, 33, was cited on Saturday, Sept. 16, for theft. On Sept. 11 Chapman unlawfully obtained an IPhone 6 Plus from the victim and sold the phone to another individual. The phone was recovered and returned to the owner. He is to appear in court Oct. 5

51-year old Sandra Kay Thomason was arrested on Tuesday, Sept. 19, for public intoxication. Police responded to the area of North Congress Blvd and East Main St. for a reported white female who was unsteady on her feet and appeared to be intoxicated. The officer made contact with the described female, found to be Sandra Thomason, rolling in the grass. 
Upon speaking with Thomason, the officer observed her to have red blood-shot watery eyes, unsteady on her feet, and had the odor of alcohol coming from her breathe. Due to Thomason’ condition, she was taken into custody for her and the public’s safety.  Her bond was set at $2,000; her court date Oct. 5.

Smithville Police have charged two men in the recent theft of a trailer.
Billy Joe Derrick, 47, of Crossville and Kristian James Dupuy, 42, of Smithville are each charged with theft of property over $1,000.
An officer was dispatched to 468 West Broad Street for a trailer theft on Tuesday, Sept. 19, and shown video footage of a man who got out of a vehicle matching the description of the automobile used in the trailer theft.
Police later spotted the vehicle driving by Bridgeway Motel. An officer followed as the vehicle turned in and stopped at 905 West Main Street. As he approached the automobile, the officer observed that the clothing and appearance of the driver, Kristian Dupuy, matched the image of the man shown in the camera footage.
Police mirandized Dupuy and asked him about the trailer. According to the officer, Dupuy admitted that he had assisted in taking the trailer with Billy Derrick, who was a passenger in the vehicle. Derrick got out and attempted to flee on foot. The officer shouted for Derrick to stop but he kept running. Derrick was then apprehended by the officer approximately 50 yards from the automobile. Derrick said the reason he ran was because he knew he had warrants against him in other counties.
Bond for each is $10,000. Derrick is also charged with evading arrest. His bond on that offense is $5,000. Both will make a court appearance on Oct. 5.

Andrew Payton West, 25, was arrested on Wednesday, Sept. 20, for domestic assault.  On Tuesday police responded to a domestic assault call and made contact with the victim, who had several cuts and swelling to her right eye. 
It was discovered that the victim was sitting outside on her back porch when her ex-boyfriend, West showed up. She informed him she didn’t want him there and didn’t want to speak to him, at which time he allegedly punched her with a closed fist in her right eye.  His bond was set at $3,500; court date Oct. 5.


On Monday, Sept. 25, Sandra Kay Thomason, 51, was arrested for public intoxication.  Police responded to the intersection of Juniper and Jackson St, for a possibly intoxicated female walking and yelling in the roadway. 
Upon arrival, the officer observed Thomason walking her dog in the roadway and began talking with her. The officer smelt the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from her person, noticed she had glassy eyes and that she was unsteady on her feet. Thomason became irritated while the officer was speaking with her and informed her she was under arrest. Thomason began pulling away from the officer and wouldn’t get into the back of the patrol car willingly. After the officer got her into the car she began kicking the glass and door with her feet. Her bond was set at $2,500; her court date is Oct. 26.
