City police said three people face charges after officers found drugs and paraphernalia in their vehicle during the investigation of a traffic accident on May 9.
According to Captain Steven Leffew, Officer in Charge at the Smithville Police Department, Jason Aaron Davis, 33, has been charged with possession of Schedule I and II drugs, 34-year-old Wesley M. Peterson was cited for a suspended license, and a juvenile was cited for simple possession and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Police said Officer Will Judkins was dispatched to an accident at KFC/Taco Bell. While investigating the fender bender, the officer became suspicious, and Drug Officer James Cornelius and K-9 LEO were called in to assist.
The dog allegedly alerted several times on the exterior of the vehicle, apparently due to an odor of a narcotic substance. Officers conducted a search of the vehicle and found a black tar substance believed to be Heroin, a bottle containing a liquid substance thought to be Methadone, pills suspected to be Hydroxyzine Pamoate and Duloxetiue Hydrochloride, along with marijuana and items that are commonly used with illegal drugs.
Both Davis and Peterson will appear in court on June 18.
Corporal Chip Avera and Officer Lance Dillard assisted in the investigation.
Meanwhile, Patsy Lynn Estes McCoy, 43, was arrested on May 14 for burglary, theft and resist stop, halt, frisk, arrest, and search.
Sergeant Brad Tatrow was called to the hospital to investigate reports of someone burglarizing vehicles in the parking lot. McCoy was allegedly found to have entered two vehicles in the emergency room parking lot without the knowledge or consent of the owners. She reportedly took items from each vehicle.
Police said the sergeant saw McCoy attempting to conceal something in her hand, and when he ordered her to produce it she refused. McCoy then pulled away as Sergeant Tatrow tried to retrieve the item. Police discovered that McCoy had also taken items from the medical floor without the knowledge or consent of hospital personnel.
Her bond was set at $6,000.
Officer James Cornelius responded to a call of a man lying in the road on W Broad Street on May 20, and allegedly found Steven Lee Gebhardt, 41, lying in the brush on the south side of West Broad Street. Once Gebhardt was assisted to his feet, Officer Cornelius noticed his speech to be slurred and that he was unsteady on his feet. Based on Gebhardt's condition, he was placed under arrest for public intoxication.
His bond was set at $1,500.
Sergeant Bryant arrested Dustin M. Heath, 25, for theft on May 26.
Heath allegedly entered the Broad Street Market and took two 18 packs of Busch beer without paying for them. His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on June 11.
While on routine patrol at Wal-Mart Officer on May 23, Officer Andy Snow reportedly saw McKynna Smith, 20, sitting her car smoking something from a pipe.
Police said the officer parked his patrol car and made contact with the woman and asked if she had anything on her or in the vehicle.
She voluntarily handed over three plastic baggies containing a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana totaling approximately 6 grams in weight, two pipes and a grinder. Smith was cited for simple possession of Schedule VI drug and paraphernalia.
She will appear in court on June 11.
Ernest Willard Dodd Jr., 19, was arrested on May 6 for aggravated assault and violation of an order of protection.
Officer Matt Farmer was reportedly dispatched to a field behind Village Place Apartments in response to reports of a physical domestic. Upon arrival, he allegedly heard yelling and crying, and found Dodd and the victim in the middle of the field among a small stand of trees.
Farmer found the victim to have marks on her arms, neck and face. He also learned that the woman has an order of protection against Dodd.
His bond was set at $9,500, and he will appear in court on June 4.
Officer Will Judkins arrested John Brent Williams, 33, for public intoxication on May 24.
City police responded to a fight, and upon arrival officers said Williams was present in a public place, and under the influence of an alcoholic beverage to the degree that he endangered other persons and unreasonably annoyed people in the vicinity. Williams was allegedly advised several times to calm down, and was arrested when he refused to do so. His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on June 18.
Nathaniel Andrew Chastain, 19, was cited by Sergeant Travis Bryant for vandalism on May 25. Police said a ball belonging to a neighbor rolled into the door of Chastain's residence and Chastain came out of the residence and stabbed the ball with a knife.
He will appear in court on June 11.
Sergeant Bryant arrested Cody Lee Cripps, 29, for public intoxication on May 26.
Cripps was reportedly found in a parking lot on West Broad Street at approximately 1:30 a.m., and had a strong odor of alcohol on his person, slurred speech and was unsteady on his feet. Cripps had crawled into the cab of a semi-truck owned by Tennessee Credit. Prior to police arrival, witnesses stated he was yelling and swearing, which was creating a disturbance.
His bond was set at $1,500, and he will appear in court on June 11.
