The Smithville City Police Department brought Santa to a gymnasium full of needy children Friday night.The second annual Cops for Kids saw the children and their families enjoy a meal, entertainment and gifts from Saint Nick. The event, organized by police department records clerk Beth Adcock, was held at the First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center.Participation was by invitation only, and was meant for financially-strapped families who have experienced illness, loss of income, or other extenuating circumstances during the holiday season.The New Life United Pentecostal Church Choir entertained the crowd, and pastor Dwayne Cornelius read the biblical story of the birth of Christ.The night was capped by a visit from Santa, Mrs. Claus, and three of their little helpers from the North Pole.
