City police make DUI, assault arrests

Hugo R Fuentes, 27, was arrested for DUI and cited for driver license violation and financial responsibility on June 20.

 

Police responded to Food Lion to investigate reports that a male subject was throwing up outside of a window of the vehicle in the parking lot, and appeared to be intoxicated.  While en route, the officer made contact with the vehicle, which had left the parking lot, on South Congress Boulevard and reportedly observed the driver throwing up while driving and swerving in and out of his lane of travel.

 

The officer initiated a traffic stop at DeKalb Funeral Chapel, where he made contact with Fuentes.  The officer could allegedly smell the odor of alcohol coming from Fuentes person, and found him to be unsteady on his feet. Police said Fuentes was asked, and consented to, field sobriety tasks, which he performed poorly.  

 

Fuentes reportedly couldn't provide proof of insurance and a computer check revealed that he was driving while license suspended due to failure to show proof or financial responsibility.

 

His bond is $1,500, and his court date is June 29.

 

Jason Allen Bates, 41, was arrested for assault on June 23. 

 

Officers responded to an assault and made contact with the parties involved.  Police said it appeared that the victim was trying to retrieve three dogs from Bates, and he grabbed the victim on the left thigh just above the knee cap and then began to scratch her.  The victim did have bruising and several scratch marks. 

 

His bond is $3,000, and he will appear in court on Jly 14.

 

Thomas E. Lee, 81, was arrested for domestic assault on June 26. 

 

Police said that Lee and the victim were arguing, and that he kicked her, leaving a bruise on her back side. 

 

His bond is $2,500, and his court date is July 13.

 

Angela Kristina Haynes, 26, was arrested for DUI on June 25. 

 

Police responded to a report of a female passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle at the intersection of West Broad Street and Walmart Drive.  The officer made contact with the woman, and identified her as Haynes. She was reportedly was unsteady on her feet, had red water eyes and slurred speech. 

 

Haynes was asked to perform standardized field sobriety tasks, to which she complied.  Police said she performed poorly on all tasks, at which time she was taken into custody without incident. 

 

Her bond is $1,500, and her court date is July 20.

 

Angela Joan Close, 47, was cited for dog at large on June 20.

 

Police said a dog owned by Close left her residence on Carter Street and was in the public roadway when it caused a motor vehicle accident with injuries.  Close had been warned several times to keep her dogs on her property.

 

Her court date is June 29.

 

Carolyn Hale, 32, was cited for theft of property on June 26.

 

Hale allegedly took a purse from a shopping cart at Walmart on June 24.  The purse was recovered on June 26 and returned to the victim. 

 

She will appear in court on July 13.
