Matthew A Gilles, 31, was arrested on Tuesday, Aug. 29, for aggravated assault.  Smithville police responded to an assault call and upon investigation it was determined that Gilles did commit the offence of aggravated assault by strangulation to the victim’s neck, leaving red marks and physical evidence of assault.  Gilles also had scratch marks on his neck from a physical altercation with the victim.  Gilles was determined the primary aggressor and taken into custody without incident.  Bond was set for $5000 and a court date of 14 Sept. was set.
Tavia Gayle Cantrell, 19, was arrested on Wednesday, Aug. 30 for disorderly conduct.  At approximately 5:15 a.m., officers were outside the Police Department when they heard Cantrell standing outside of the Sheriff’s Department cussing and yelling at the County Officers.  She then ran up the square yelling and screaming.  Police asked Cantrell to calm down and talk to them in a peaceful manner to which she refused to comply and was taken into custody due to her actions and causing a danger to herself and causing a disruption to the public.  Bond was set at $3500 with a court date of Sept. 28.
