Smithville Police are looking for two men who reportedly robbed the El Rancho Restaurant on West Broad Street recently.
According to Police Chief Mark Collins, two men wearing black ski masks entered the business through a back door after the restaurant closed on March 8, and held the owner and an employee at gunpoint. The intruders reportedly took $3,340 and destroyed a television set, then fled.
The restaurant owner told police that he and an employee were mopping the floors at around 10:30 p.m. when the two masked men entered through a back door that had been left open brandishing pistols. The men were roughly 5’ 5" to 6’ in height and of a medium build. They were wearing black ski masks, navy blue hoodies, gloves, and navy blue jeans.
The robbers reportedly ordered everyone to get on the floor and demanded cash. Money was taken from the victim’s wallets and a money bag from the safe was stolen. The men then tried to steal a TV, but dropped it. The victims were ordered to stay on the floor for ten minutes or they would die. It is not known how the robbers escaped the scene.
No one was hurt in the incident, and no arrests have been made.
