City police, workers brighten Christmas
bikes I

The third annual Cops for Kids Christmas party at the First Baptist Church Life Enrichment Center saw many children who may not have otherwise had much of a Christmas this year fed, entertained, and visited by Santa Friday night. The event was sponsored by the Smithville Police Department and organized by records clerk Beth Adcock. City employees provided bicycles and riding toys for more than 70 children. Bibles were also presented to the children. The party is an invitation-only event for hand-picked families who have experienced sickness, job loss, or other setbacks during the holiday season. The local First Assembly of God church provided entertainment, and the Bible story about the birth of Christ was read by Iain Swisher. Some of the city employees who conducted the drive to acquire bicycles for the children are shown above.
