Sportsmen will now be able to acquire a hunting or fishing license or renew their boat registration at the county complex, according to County Clerk James L. (Jimmy) Poss.
Poss said his office has implemented the TWRA (Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency) Tennessee R.E.A.L. (Remote Easy Access License) system. “Since beginning as county clerk, our office has received numerous requests for watercraft vessel renewals and to purchase hunting and fishing licenses,” the clerk shared.
“The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency launched a new system called Tennessee R. E A. L. on Oct. 31,” he continued. “This system will operate directly through the internet, from the same computer we currently perform all other transactions.”
He said that the system should be an improvement over the old one. “In recent conversations with TWRA and fellow clerks this new method is expected to be more efficient and user friendly from the previous method,” he said. “Although this service isn’t mandated, it does provide a convenient service for many while generating income to the county.”
The clerk’s office was required to start fresh with the TWRA because the county’s account had been closed, Poss said. “Due to DeKalb County closing its previous account in June 2011 we were not be eligible to provide this service until now,” the clerk informed. “I coordinated with the TWRA in order to reestablish a new entity ID number. Also, our software provider has completed adjustments for receipting and transferring funds electronically. When adding any new service to an existing concern of staffing it’s not as appealing or without concern. However, in attempt to offer this convenience, I’m willing to make the effort with optimism and a desire to provide this service. We’ve met requirements in full, have received our entity ID and are ready to begin processing December 1, 2016,” the clerk concluded.
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency sells approximately 1.25 million licenses and permits through 892 license agents. The total annual sales amount is approximately 33 million dollars. Approximately 100,000 boat registrations are processed yearly by the TWRA.
