THP roadblocks coming this month
The Tennessee Highway Patrol will be conducting a Sobriety Checkpoint on May 25 on U.S. 70 Highway. Troopers will also be conducting a Seatbelt Checkpoint, May 30 at SR 146.
Ladies’ Conference May 26
The House of Prayer Apostolic Church ladies ministry will host a conference at noon, May 26 at 690 Bright Hill Road with Joyce Kilgore speaking and demonstrating on the Prodigal Son.
Snow Hill hosts special service May 26
Snow Hill Baptist Church will have a special service called “The Armor of God”. Speakers will be Cedric Aaron, Sam Garrison, Darryl Whaley, and James Robert King. Come hear these dynamic men speak about the different pieces in the Armor of God in a way you have never heard. The service begins at 5 p.m.
School Art Exhibit May 26
DeKalb County Schools will hold an art exhibit May 26 from 1 to 3 p.m. at the DeKalb County Complex featuring art from local students.
Free wrestling show in Warren County May 26
Tennessee All-Pro Wrestling will hold fan appreciation night at 8 p.m., Saturday at its arena at Smartt Assembly of God Church on Manchester Highway near McMinnville. Admission is free and doors open at 7 p.m.

Memorial day program
The American Legion and Ladies Auxiliary will have a program on Memorial Day at the County Complex. The program will begin about 10 a.m. preceded by special music. The guest speaker will be Ben Franklin, with Larry Green and Don Rigsby leading prayer at the Complex and at the wreath laying ceremony respectively. Boy Scout Troop 347 will present the colors. Our fallen soldiers will be remembered. Everyone is invited.
Turner-Robinson reunion is June 2
The Turner-Robinson family will hold a reunion June 2 at 11:30 a.m. at the DeKalb County Complex. Bring food for a time of fellowship.
VBS in the Park June 2-3
Snow Hill Baptist Church will be having Vacation Bible School in Green Brook Park on Saturday June 2 and Sunday June 3. Classes will begin at 10 a.m. both days. Classes will be for ages 5 thru adult. Lunch will be provided both days. Registration and classes will be held in the shelters near the playground. Please come join us in the park. A responsible person must come in the park and register their child. Children without that responsible person will not be allowed to participate. This is for the safety of your child.
Banks Cemetery decoration is June 3
Decoration at Banks Cemetery is June 3. Those unable to attend may send donations for upkeep to Robert Joins, Treasurer, 846 Luttrell Avenue, Smithville, TN 37166. June 3 will also be homecoming for Banks Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Sunday School at 10 a.m., worship at 11 a.m. and lunch at noon.
Baseball camp is June 4-5
The 2018 DeKalb County baseball camp will be held June 4-5 at the high school field for ages 5-14. Cost of the camp is $60 and registration will be June 4 from 8 to 8:45 a.m. Participants need to bring cleats, tennis shoes, baseball pants, hat, glove, bat and catcher’s gear if they want to play catcher. Camp participants will learn mechanics of throwing and catching, pitching and playing the field, fundamentals of hitting and will go through numerous drills.
Trip to New York planned for June
Judy Redmon has taken over Wanda Poss’ traveling group since her passing. Judy is planning a trip to New York. The trip is in June from 7-13. She needs at least six more people. The cost is $637 which pays rooming, 10 meals and transportation. Judy has had several years of experience in this kind of activity. Please call her at 615-597-6240 and make plans to go. Neddy Jacobs Days June 8-9
Fiddlers Grove is preparing for Neddy Jacobs Days June 8-9 in the James E. Ward Ag Center in Lebanon. The event will go from noon until 8 p.m. on the eighth and 10 p.m. to 4 p.m. on the ninth with vendors and music. Admission is $5 and children under 10 are free. Those wanting their child to perform beside an established musician may make the request by calling 615-547-6111. Deadline to book booth space is May 31 and may be done by calling the above number.
DeKalb County Fire Depart. benefit June 9
Liberty Engine #65 will hold a benefit at DeKalb West School beginning at 4 p.m., June 9 with gumbo, catfish and chicken. Adults $12, kids 6-10 is $6 and under five is free. Live auction begins at 7 p.m. Those interested in donating call 615-464-3166.
Fiddlers Grove Kidz Kamp June 9
Kids Camp will be hosted at Fiddlers Grove in Lebanon from 10 a.m. to noon, June 9 and July 7 for ages six through 16. Cost to cover materials is $25 and will include events like wood burning, quilting, weaving, basket making and many others. Call 615-547-6111 to pre-register.

Clothing donation drop-off dates at DeKalb Middle School
DeKalb Middle school on St. Bernard Boulevard free clothing market is looking for clothing and shoes sizes youth large and adult extra-large. Home fix-up offered by work camp
Smithville Church of Christ is offering their work camp for less fortunate residents who can use help fixing up and beautifying their property and homes. Those who would like to have their residence considered should contact the church at 615-597-4159 by June 8 to get an application and sign a release form.
Local Help Center Needs Help From the Community
His Love Help Center has been providing free clothes, shoes, medical items and etc. for over three years to people in our community. They serve all walks of life, such as single parents, the elderly, fire victims, and more. At the current location (1100 S. College St.) the Help Center has to pay rent, phone, water, gas and electric. In order to stay open and to continue serving our community it needs your help.
