Trash collection sites closed July 4

The DeKalb County transfer station and all trash collection sites will be closed Wednesday, July 4, for Independence Day.

Smithville Cumberland Church holds event Jamboree weekend

Smithville Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold its annual yard sale and craft fair during the Jamboree on Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Money raised will go toward upcoming mission trips to Brazil. The youth will again serve delicious food from the Kountry Kitchen from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. to raise funds to help with youth mission trips. This year they will be serving gumbo, fried pies, ice cream and more. The bazaar and yard sale will be held in the church gym.

Jamboree coverage on WCTE

WCTE Upper Cumberland PBS will air live coverage of the 47th Annual Smithville Fiddlers’ Jamboree on Friday, July 6, beginning at 7:00 p.m. on WCTE’s main channel, and again on Saturday, July 7 beginning at 5:00 p.m. on both WCTE’s main channel as well as the Tennessee Channel. Live coverage can also be accessed at wcte.org at these times.

Whorton Springs celebration July 8

Whorton Springs Baptist Church will have their July 4 celebration on July 8. Food and refreshments start at 6 p.m. and fireworks display at 8:30 p.m.

Mt. Herman Baptist hosts homecoming July 8

Mt. Herman Baptist Church will hold homecoming July 8 at 11 a.m. with David Carden preaching and 4 the Lord singing. Lunch after morning service. A revival will begin July 9 and run through July 12 with Greg Mitchell preaching and special singing every night.

Smithville Church of God will host Vacation Bible School July 8-12 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. nightly for ages K-5.

New Home revival July 9-13

New Home Missionary Baptist Church will be having Revival July 9-13 at 7 p.m. nightly. Thomas Hale will be bringing the message. Everyone is invited.

Vacation Bible School at House of Prayer July 13-14

The House of Prayer Apostolic Church at 690 Bright Hill Road will hold Game On, Vacation Bible School from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 13 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., July 14.

Smithville Church of Christ hosts VBS July 16-19

Vacation Bible School will be held from 9 to 11 a.m., July 16-19 for ages three through sixth grade at Smithville Church of Christ at 520 Dry Creek Road. This year’s theme is “Excavate, Discovering the Treasures of Jesus”. The church can be reached at 615-597-4159.

Christpoint VBS July 23-25

Christpoint Smithville will be having VBS on July 23-25 from 6-8 p.m. They will have classes for grades K-5. There will be bible stories, crafts, food, and games. Their theme this year is Super God! Free Wildlife Food Plot Mix

The TWRA and the DeKalb SCD are giving away a 1-10 pound bag of wildlife seed for the people in DeKalb County until supply last. One bag will sow about ¼ acre. This will help feed the deer, turkeys, and songbirds. Come by the Soil Conservation office located at the USDA Service Center, 647 Bright Hill Road. Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Adcock Cemetery donations for upkeep

Clothing donation drop off dates at DeKalb Middle School

DeKalb Middle School on St. Bernard Boulevard free clothing market is looking for clothing and shoes sizes youth large and adult extra-large. They may be dropped off at DMS July 23 from 8 a.m. to noon. For info call Suzette or Angela at 615-597-79878.

Local Help Center Needs Help From the Community

His Love Help Center has been providing free clothes, shoes, medical items and etc. for over three years to people in our community. They serve all walks of life, such as single parents, the elderly, fire victims, and more. At the current location (1100 S. College St.) the Help Center has to pay rent, phone, water, gas and electric.  In order to stay open and to continue serving our community it needs your help. If you feel you are able to provide financial help, have a building they can use or a one-time donation please stop by the help center or call 615-597-(love) 5683.

There are free classes held at the DeKalb County Complex, Room 119 Monday – Thursday from 3:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is Monday 3:30 – 7 p.m. and Tuesday 9 a.m. to noon. Al-Anon Meetings

The DeKalb Animal Coalition will suspended its meetings for the summer but will pick back up the first Thursday in September at 6:30 p.m. in the second story of city hall.

Smithville Head Start Center

L.B.J. & C. Head Start is currently accepting applications to provide free comprehensive child development services to children three- five years of age from low-income families in a full-day program. Services are also offered to meet the special needs of children with disabilities. L.B.J. & C. Head Start helps all children succeed. L.B.J. & C.
