The Smithville Police Department reports that Jacob James Damon, 22, was arrested for simple possession, driving on revoked, and evading arrest on Aug. 4.
Police responding to reports of a reckless driver on Cookeville Highway coming into the city limits reportedly spotted the vehicle near North Side Elementary, and saw the driver run the red light at the intersection of Highways 70 and 56 at a high rate of speed.
Police activated their blue lights, but the driver refused to stop, continuing into Warren County where the he drove through a residential area. The driver reportedly turned into a driveway and drove through a back yard and into a field, where he lost control and spun out.
He recovered, however, and the vehicle entered the yard of another residence. Police said that due to the threat of safety to residents, it was determined that the driver needed to be stopped. A controlled pit maneuver was implemented in order to stop the driver from evading further.
Once the vehicle was stopped, the driver exited and attempted to flee the scene on foot. Officers gave chase and eventually apprehended the suspect, who was found to be Damon.
A search reportedly revealed 32 pills believed to be Diazepam in a cellophane wrapper on his person. His bond was set at $16,500, and he will appear in court on Aug. 18.
Meanwhile, City Police arrested Billy Eugene Cook Jr., 47, on Aug. 10 and charged him with criminal impersonation and auto burglary.
Police were reportedly dispatched to investigate reports of a man who left the St. Thomas DeKalb Emergency Room and was seen going through parked cars in the parking lot. Upon arrival, a man approached the officer and informed him that a man had gotten into his vehicle and threatened him.
The subject reportedly jumped out of the vehicle and ran towards the specialty clinic, where the officer stopped him. The subject gave a false name and birth date when asked, but another officer on the scene knew the subject as Billy Cook Jr., which was confirmed by a computer check.
Cook was found to have items in his possession belonging to a victim whose car he was allegedly seen rifling through while it was parked by the ER.
His bond was set at $15,000, and he will appear in court on Aug. 25.
Michael Dwayne Bennett, 40, was arrested on Aug. 5 for a second offense of driving while suspended, and cited for a registration violation and failure to maintain his lane of travel.
Police initiated a traffic stop with a vehicle that was reportedly failing to maintain its lane of travel. The driver, Bennett, was not able to produce a driver's license, and a check with central dispatch revealed that Bennett's license was suspended for failure to show proof of insurance.
His bond was set at $2,500 and he will appear in court on Sept. 1.
Shane Tyler Hale, 22, was cited for theft of property under $500 on Aug. 6.
A Wal-Mart employee reportedly observed Hale taking multiple items off the shelves and concealing them in his pockets.
He will appear in court on Aug. 18.
Ashley M. Singleton, 25, was cited for shoplifting on Aug. 2.
A Dollar General Store employee allegedly observed Singleton placing items in her purse in an attempt to deprive the store of its property which was recovered and returned.
She will appear in court on Aug. 25.
